Paul
Wolfe begins his first season with Penske Racing in 2010 as crew
chief of the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge driven by Brad Keselowski
in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Wolfe's passion for racing was almost immediate as a child. Growing
up in upstate New York, Wolfe watched his father race in a dirt
modified car. The need for speed was cultivated in Wolfe as he
was around stock cars throughout his entire childhood. He began
racing go-karts at the age of 11 and continued to race in the local
series until he was 18.
In 1996, Wolfe took a leap of faith and moved from New York to
North Carolina, determined to make a name for himself in the NASCAR
ranks. The move paid off as Wolfe joined Joe Gibbs Racing and worked
in various departments while he learned the ins and outs of NASCAR
and gained valuable hands-on experience about race cars.
Wolfe's desire to race brought him back behind the wheel in the
Camping World East and NASCAR Nationwide Series from 2000 to 2005.
He and his father put together their own team and raced a partial
schedule over the course of three years. In 25 races, Wolfe captured
eight top-five and 15 top-10 finishes.
Wolfe ran a limited Nationwide Series schedule for new team owner
Tommy Baldwin in 2004 before the team was sold to Ray Evernham
the following season. Wolfe's final stint as a NASCAR driver was
with Fitz Racing. In 16 career Nationwide Series races, Wolfe accumulated
six top-20 finishes before he decided to hang up his helmet and
become a crew chief.
In 2006, Wolfe was hired to call the shots for the No. 12 NASCAR
Camping World East Series team at Fitz Racing. Wolfe brought the
team its first victory that year with rookie driver Ruben Pardo.
The following season, Wolfe was named crew chief for Fitz Racing's
Nationwide Series team. Working with a number of drivers in the
No. 22 Dodge, the team posted its top result of second place with
driver Mike Bliss at Memphis Motorsports Park. Wolfe returned as
crew chief for the team in 2008 with rookie Josh Wise in the No.
22 machine as well as the No. 00 entry. Wolfe and Wise had an impressive
run together as they posted five top-15 finishes in 17 starts.
In 2009, Wolfe joined CJM Racing as crew chief of the No. 11 car
in the Nationwide Series. Working with several different drivers,
Wolfe helped lead the team to five top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.
In November of 2009, Wolfe was named the crew chief of the No.
22 Discount Tire Dodge Charger for Penske Racing. Working with
an experienced team and winning driver, Wolfe is looking forward
to an exciting season in 2010.
Wolfe currently resides in Mooresville, NC.
